Palm Treo 700wx on Sprint

Palm Treo 700wx on Sprint

While some of you undoubtedly prefer a Palm OS on your handheld device, we, if only for the sake of familiarity, have a bias toward Microsoft Windows. With that being said Sprint, rounding out their Palm lineup, recently unveiled the Treo 700wx. Not much different on this device from existing 700′s on the market aside from the additional RAM and the Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. For some the OS is the only thing that matters, more RAM is just a bonus. Sprint is currently letting the Treo 700wx go for $399.99 after $150 instant, $100 mail-in and the obligatory service agreement.

Motorola i580

Motorola i580

The IDEN phone we covered a few months back, the Motorola i580, is finally ready for consumption by you outdoor types. SprintNextel and Motorola apparently are in a lovefest celebrating the release of the iDEN clamshell which meets military specs for rain, dust, shock and vibration, even though it is not available in Hot Pink, Pumpkin or Mandarin Orange.

You can listen to MP3s while playing paintball with the i580 but we don’t recommend it, however the use of Bluetooth, Direct Send, and other walkie-talkie features make it good for communication between team members. The rubber gripped clamshell is priced at $279.99 after discounts, promotions contracts and so forth.

Quick Specs

1.3 Megapixel camera
Bluetooth
GPS support
Walkie Talkie functions
MP3 Player

LG Fusic from Sprint

The names keep getting weirder and weirder but as long as the phones get better along the way, we’re not complaining. (The Fusic if you recall was originally the LG LX550) I don’t know what prompted the name change, but the design is sweet, focusing on the music features and making the controls easily accessible on the outside of the phone, had it not been for the antenna sticking up (which I personally don’t like) you could easily mistake the LG Fusic for an MP3 player.

The phone has 1.3 megapixel camera which of course I abhor especially for a phone that would cost over 3 bills ($329.99) without rebate. However, because it is a Sprint phone you receive all the Sprint PCS Picture Mail stuff (capture, print, share, etc) which is good.

As the name implies, the focus of the device is music and in addition to the external controls the Fusic has an FM transmitter (a US first) but with such small storage (bundled 64MB MicroSD) you won’t be transmitting too much. I searched for the Maximum capacity SD card for the LG Fusic but had no luck.

Availbale starting May 28th the Sprint exclusive LG Fusic will be priced at $179.99 after the two-year contract and rebates are all accounted for. LG is willing to let buyers choose colors immediately offering faceplates in black, green, blue and most definitely pink. Too bad you can’t change the whole case. Black is definitely the hottest faceplate. I wonder why there is no white? Maybe that would be too over the top.

Quick Specs

176 x 220 pixel 262k color TFT display
Bluetooth
EV-DO
FM Transmitter
1.3 megapixel camera
MicroSD card slot (bundled with 64MB)
Size: 3.78 x 1.89 x .78 inches / 96 x 48 x 20mm
Weight 4.23oz / 120g

No GSM version has been announced by Palm at this point. Retail pricing after contract is expected to be around $399.
