Mobile Networks Go Broadcast with Ericsson

BigBerries

Ericsson has successfully trialed mobile broadcast technology for distribution of multimedia services, such as mobile TV, over 3G networks. The trial, performed in Stockholm, Sweden, was the first live use of Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS).

The introduction of MBMS to the mobile networks will further enhance possibilities for mobile operators, allowing them to meet the future demands of mobile TV users during peak live TV broadcasts, such as of sporting events, news and music contest finals.

MBMS allows different forms of content to be broadcast in different areas of the mobile network and stimulates the development of new mobile mass-media services.

As a complement to the unicast solution in mobile networks, MBMS makes more efficient use of network resources and capacity through point-to-multi-point connection, which allows an unlimited number of users to watch the same mobile TV program at the same time in the same area.

Sony Ericsson W700i Walkman Phone

Sony Ericsson W700i Cam angle

Source: Techdigest

Las Vegas, CTIA 2006. Today Sony Ericsson unwraps another Walkman phone the W700i, similar in style and look to the Sony Ericsson W800i, the W700i includes a 2 megapixel camera.

2.0 megapixel cameras, on mobile phones as you all should know by now get a nod of approval from me. Anything less is uncivilized.

[rant]
1.3 megapixel cameras in my opinion are a rip and a waste of time, when you are forking over a few hundred dollars for a phone. I know the .7 pixels doesn’t mean much to a sharpshooter, but the 2.0 megapixels helps me sleep better at night.

Thanks for listening Sony Ericsson.

Sony Ericsson Website Makes Subtle Changes

Maybe it was just me, but it seems Sony Ericsson has rolled out a new website design. The reason i’m saying this is because for the longest time I was unable to read the bottom navigation. Anyway it makes me happy because it seems this design is quiet too.

While you’re there check out the Girls On Tour.

Ericsson and Sony Ericsson News – HSDPA in Portugal and Womens Tennis

Starting off Ericsson, (not to be confused with Sony Ericsson) today was trading at its 52 week high, the recent moves made by the company is definitely paying off for its investors.

Optimus, not the Transformer but the Portuguese mobile operator in the Sonaecom group, wants Ericsson for its web protocol subsystem. Ericsson is getting the call because Optimus desires to significantly improve its 3G network through offering quality multimedia services and features

Working with Ericsson opens the door to new possibilities for Optimus, allowing them to provide feature rich servies to their customers, while simultaneously reducing costs and speeding up product and service release times.

An example of such products to be introduced as a result of working with Ericsson will be a service by the name of weShare. weShare allows mobile phone users to share media, including music, photos and video clips while still talking on the phone.

Optimus gets mobile soft-switch, HSDPA and reduced costs, mobile phone users get better services and more features

Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

RAZR Burned? – Here are 3 Phones to Smooth You Over

In case you hadn’t heard, the Motorola RAZR has been temporarily suspended from the lineup of available phones to purchase from Cingular and Sprint.

If you were one of the few people remaining on Earth who didn’t happen to get this phone, chances are, as it stands right now, you never will, at least not brand new.

Motorola has issued a statement, saying the current issue, of calls being dropped or the phone arbitrarily shutting down, only affected a limited number of phones. I was surprised, that since the release back in 2004, why did it just now come to be an issue?

Motorola says this will not dampen its financial outlook and expectations for this year; however, the Market has not been kind to Motorola this year despite the current string of successes.

Both Cingular and T-mobile are looking to release the phones again for purchase, as they are still hot items.

On the other hand, if you’re one of the people who have been affected by the RAZR glitch, then you probably want a completely new mobile, to play with and help you through this troubling and difficult time.

Black Diamond, Sony Ericsson Answer to Vertu?

From Esato

Sony Ericsson Jaren Goh Black Diamond concept mobile phone

Esato is making reference of a sexy little concept from industrial designer Jaren Goh. His most recent creation, the Black Diamond. After looking at the the phone I must say, Diamonds are indeed, forever.

Kanye West won’t mind these diamonds, there’s no conflict at all. Everything is in harmony, producing a justified blend of style and technology.

The Black Diamond concept mobile, according to jarengoh.com was crafted by Jaren late 2005, however the sleek styling combined with the unveiling of the Vertu may suggest that the Black Diamond may be more than just a mobile concept.

The Black Diamond mobile phone is listed as containing a 4 megapixel camera but if you look closely you can see what appears to be headsets just towards the bottom of the device.

Black polycarbonate body, elegant form, sleek finish. Alas, no release date.
