Speak to Your Email and Voice Command Your Downloads on Mobile Phones

Nuance Communications to offer Voice Command for mobile phones

Another company on the horizon to offer speech-recognizing services for mobile phones. A while back Bigberries reported regarding Promptu which will offer voice based search.

This time around Mobilemag picked up an article from Yahoo!, regarding Nuance Communications Inc., the company behind Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Nuance is said to be beta testing with about 10 carriers for speech recognizing services, much similar to Promptu, Nuance is offering a solution that is built around servers at a company facility instead of being limited to phone memory.

I think it’s great but with all the revenue coming in from text messaging, this may take a while before it’s adopted, at least adopted without fees.

MobHappy We Salute You – Finally Another Site is Fed Up with Apple iPhone Speculation

So I’m scanning and guess what I see “Okay, On 3, Everybody Make Up Something About the iPhone.” I grinned from ear to ear, finally another site gets it. Needless to say you won’t find ANY Apple iPhone rumors here on BigBerries.

I’m not looking to build by being a groupie or by baiting people with fake stories. I busted a gut when I saw the Business 2.0 cover, I remember when it came in the mail…LAST YEAR.

So MobHappy today BigBerries salutes you for having “big berries” and stepping out and doing what is right and proclaiming against the iPhone rumor whore that is running rampant on practically every site.

Incidentally what you will find on BigBerries is a four part article titled the iPod is dead.

Part 1

Part 2Â

Part 3

Part 4

Is Your Phone, Just a Phone or is it a Status Symbol?

I was up early today and came across, yet another interesting read. This time the culprit is GizmoWatch . Now the article Vikas is over there running is from theAge , discussing how phones do more than serve as communication devices, but as social measuring sticks as well. The thrust of the article is focused on youth, with a slight mention of “young” adults.

However, I believe this is a trend that expands into every tier of the tech set. From baby-boomers to the newest fad in toddler phones, which of course says more about the parent than the child.

Whatever your the stance of the devices usage, I don’t see them as threats or socially damaging and when weighed against some of the other choices the youth and social misfits of society have turned to historically, drugs being one of them, I think it’s safe to say, let them talk.

As for measuring sticks, they’ll always be.

Darla Mack Understands

I was cruising the web …wait let me give a back drop first.

Last week I ranted a bit . in case you missed it, I went on about people snatching and using content, without giving credit or giving credit to partner sites. A tad of it came from my visit to big blog boss, Allen Tsai’s site and his graceful tirade about people scraping content.

I was a bit thrown off because he seemed to be leaning in the direction of monetization or penalty or something, whatever it was I didn’t like it. I understand his concerns but at the same time I have a different approach as to addressing the issue.

I was totally floored because almost 2 or 3 clicks later I discover a few places doing the snatch and grab thing to little ol’ me.

Today’s Late News and a Personal Message

First, let me say at BigBerries, we don’t change the date on our news. If we don’t post news for a day, we don’t come back later and make it seem like there was some news for that day.

Heck, sometimes you have to sleep, go outside, eat, let people know you’re alive, etc, etc..

Also we show the source where we get the news not some other site we prefer, so whether we like you personally, or if we don’t like you, popular site or not, if you’re the source, you’re the source.

Ha! I see you! Don’t make me throw up video screen shots!

In the words of Sam Cooke “A change is gone come,” so go along with it, there’s room.

Now on with some news, which is of course late.

Spoke with an employee, yesterday at Cingular, who said RAZR phones should be coming during the week. Of course you all have heard it by now as it’s been made official. Engadget last I know (11:43Pm) is still showing it out of stock until April Should have went with my gut and posted it but, oh well.

You want more than that? Check Yahoo! for details.

Well, I’ve got 15 minutes before the day is over and this post is long enough. Gotta go cram!

What’s Next for mobile phones and the industry?

Samsung unleashed a lot of wows last week. First we started CeBit 2006 with the Samsung SGH i310, blowing everything out of the water, and positioning itself as a credible threat to the Ipod.

The Samsung SGH i310, not only has an 8 GB hard drive but the Bluetooth enable phone also contained a 2 megapixel camera, has a TV-Out and will operate on Windows mobile 5.0.

As if that weren’t enough, Samsung later in the week rocked the boat again with the Samsung SCH B600.

The SCH B600, from Samsung in case you haven’t heard is the phone with an amazing 10 megapixel camera.

RAZR Burned? – Here are 3 Phones to Smooth You Over

In case you hadn’t heard, the Motorola RAZR has been temporarily suspended from the lineup of available phones to purchase from Cingular and Sprint.

If you were one of the few people remaining on Earth who didn’t happen to get this phone, chances are, as it stands right now, you never will, at least not brand new.

Motorola has issued a statement, saying the current issue, of calls being dropped or the phone arbitrarily shutting down, only affected a limited number of phones. I was surprised, that since the release back in 2004, why did it just now come to be an issue?

Motorola says this will not dampen its financial outlook and expectations for this year; however, the Market has not been kind to Motorola this year despite the current string of successes.

Both Cingular and T-mobile are looking to release the phones again for purchase, as they are still hot items.

On the other hand, if you’re one of the people who have been affected by the RAZR glitch, then you probably want a completely new mobile, to play with and help you through this troubling and difficult time.

The iPod is DEAD Part 4 – iPod The Final Chapter

When Microsoft can steal the thunder with a one page website, with nothing on it, you know something has gone terribly wrong.

When company press releases are about accessories, colors, and feature announcements (we should have had from the start) something has gone terribly, terribly wrong.

No, it’s not Apple’s fault all alone. We as a society it seems are coming out of the iPod trance.

The iPod will give us video and touch screens and forever be the icon, but mobile phones are giving us touch screens, video and music all the same.

For iPod to survive it needs to be seen as a lifestyle device not simply a media player. The iPod also must have content. We are in the era of the PSP, the Nintendo DS, Windows Mobile and 8GB hard drives on mobiles.

It is time for the iPod to grow up. We have asked for it long enough. We want iPod phones and we want iPod video. We want it so bad that people are creating false images, news outlets are reporting false stories. It’s getting bad.

These items must come if the iPod is to stay on the playing field. Apple must change the public perception of the iPod as to what it is as a device into something greater or Apple will have it’s number retired and the iPod sent to the Hall of Fame.

Yes, I know iPods are still selling, but the market is evolving and as I have revealed in the earlier portions of this long tirade, it is only a matter of time before the next “RAZR” is an iPod killer.

Why wait until then? Adapt now ahead of the curve. Produce phones. Evolve past audio. Completely.

Not simply emblazon iTunes on another manufacturers handset, but work to evolve the device into something which captures the times and presses us forward all in one fell swoop the same was done with the iPod…in the beginning.

The iPod is DEAD Part 3 – Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson W900 docked on the MDS-70 Home Audio System

(BigBerries) It’s all about position, timing and key relationships. Even more than Motorola, Sony Ericsson (SE) is moving into music in a major way.

From the looks of it they are moving into position in every price point, which, as it seems an opportunity that few handset makers are taking.
Sony Ericsson K610 in Evening Red
Not only that, Sony Ericsson is giving each price point a piece of the action. Action, meaning features and Sony Ericsson is developing feature phones for every budget, so far both cameras and music.

Complete video can only be so far down the line. If one was to speculate I’d say SE has been watching what prompts consumers to buy and has been taking notes from both Motorola and Apple and advancing key concepts.

The iPod is DEAD Part 2 – The Industry

Kyocera Sonic Slider

It’s everywhere. If it’s not near you believe me it’s coming. Mobile media. Videos and music everywhere you go. The carriers, the handset manufacturers, the television and radio giants are all in or getting in on it.

Even Google and Microsoft are in on it. More importantly, Bill Gates has stated without question that mobile phones will take the place of the iPod.

That means its serious business, which means Apple (in particular the iPod) needs to adjust. Fast. It’s been happening at a rapid fire pace, agreements between rival companies, across platforms and industries.

Nokia this week, Cingular and Yahoo the next, merging technologies, collaborating, building networks and establishing position to provide feature rich services in the form of videos games and music.

Handset makers know what I’m going to say next is the truth. Music. Video Media (including pictures) and Smartphones are the end all for the next five years.

The manufacturers must milk each enterprise separately and as long as possible until consumers demand all-in-one devices, which operate at what would be considered today’s bleeding edge standards.

Don’t believe me. Take having a camera on a phone for instance.
