Are You Better Now than You Were?

Are You Better Now than You Were?

8 months ago, 2 weeks ago… It does not matter when, just are you better?

Summer is in full swing, have you got your act together? The goals you set this year, are you on track to achieve them? Or are you headed on a direct course to failure? Closely approaching is the final quarter of the year and if you are off target, there is still ample time to get your bearings and correct the course. In case you unfortunately missed “Tools for a Better You”, now is an excellent  time to read it, do a gut check and determine if you are on the ball regarding your mental and psychical health and wellness.

I say to you however, congratulations either way, that is, if you are handling your business and everything is going according to your magnificent plan, wonderful.  Also if you’re failing miserably, wayward in your mission and feeling as though you are up the creek without a paddle, well that is fine too. You’re alive and with that, there is opportunity. So seize opportunity while the breath of life surges in you and go forward renewed knowing that there is still a chance to attain the objects of your desire.

But, motivation without direction practically guarantees getting nowhere fast, so one of the initial things you must do is figure out exactly where you are not. If you don’t know where you are, by all sensible means at least know where you want to go. If on the other hand you do know where you are, you can gauge how much further your objective is from your current location. Lastly, if you don’t know where you are and are completely clueless about where you want to go, by all practical means set some goals.

If perhaps you set goals a while ago, review those previously declared goals and determine if they are still objectives you desire. Evaluate accordingly and if needed, incorporate new goals or modify existing goals to meet any updated criteria or circumstances to reflect your current situation. Most importantly give yourself enough time. Realistic pressure is okay, but looking to advance in your company before properly performing your present duties or taking over your industry in two months is borderline insane. However, under the right circumstances, 6 months to a year is reasonable and obtainable in both cases.

There are several books to help with this; Getting Things Done is one that can assist along with Eat that Frog, written by Brian Tracy, the dip by Seth Godin, Workarounds that Work by Russell Bishop and Hard Goals by Mark Murphy. Each book contains excellent material for you to draw from and find direction along with practical tools to assist you in your personal success journey.

Take the time and review your yearly progress, while many play during this season seize the opportunity while the sky is blue and air is clear and gather fruits of wisdom, knowledge and understanding so when the seasons change through to Fall and then to Winter, you will be better prepared to handle the cold and barren season because you would have stored up reserves and prepared yourself accordingly.
