How could Google eliminate phone numbers?

With a newly available communication spectrum to expand upon, an intercontinental collection of network cabling secured and under Google control to go along with the current batch of data centers, both known and unknown, in the near future Google through the mobile sector will unveil the means to end the use of phone numbers. We still will have phones technically, but the phone number will be dead.

Google accounts will serve the final notice to telecom carriers.

Carriers will of course initially look to block this action legally through the courts, but will have no legal grounds to make claim. To their dismay, carriers will attempt to create artificial barriers to keep users from taking advantage of the new service, but will have no technological means or ability to prevent Google from providing it or users from accessing it.

Carriers will then attempt to force hardware manufacturers to create devices that block Google on a hardware level. However, when that fails carriers will seek to offer similar named-based or identity based services, but bundled with other products to validate their costs.

This all will work through a Gmail account or Google account. Users will provide their data and with their unique, personalized id, they will be able to receive and send calls, text and email through their Google powered devices without ever leaving the network.

The closest concept in function today is cloud computing. In fact, this would be almost considered such, except for certain technological aspects that are beyond the scope of this writing. Users will be able to access all communications, data and information device to device, much like Slingbox Media, data is synced by default so there will be no lag or difference based on device unless a user defines this behavior in the settings on a particular device.

Although primarily touted as a better way for people to communicate, because the service connects to a users’ Google account, users will be able to take full advantage of any Google service they have.

For those who wish to retain an actual phone number with a telecom carrier but still want to take advantage of this new technology, there will a manner in which to forward your calls to the Google service. The same functionality will be available for other types of access points such as professional email accounts, personal profile pages like Facebook or MySpace and users with multiple phone numbers.
