CES launched and with it, another device platform seems to want to rear its’ ugly head. Apparently, the marketing heads of various corporations got together and decided to raid your pockets, yet again.
This time the culprit is the MID. Yup, the mobile internet device. Looks like a smartphone, acts like a smartphone, beside the fact that Intel delivered a plastic mockup to CES, I am going to say it is a smartphone.
I know companies are cringing at the idea of actually selling a useful multimedia device without artificially creating segmentation, but come on. Mobile phones are the personal computers of the 21st Century.
Just accept it.
Anyway, UMPC’s, tablets and PMP’s have this spot covered, already. And until companies stop crapping on that great idea, we’ll keep using laptops. Remember: A slick user interface does not a new platform make.
