I was skimming TechCrunch and saw that the state of David Sifry was in transition. Well, matter of fact Dave Sifry is no longer H.N.I.C. at Technorati.
Rewind, the past few months of Technorati and their ever changing homepage, I thought to myself, “Man, they don’t know what to do with themselves, search engine, portal or a community?” As a web user to me it seemed that the more that Technorati “added”, the more they were “taking away”.
Aside from bloggers crying foul about the politics of getting on that damned Technorati 100 list, ping issues, gaming and damaging instigation from Inspector Arrington, I actually thought Technorati was in for it when it changed to a layout that screamed search engine. As if Google would continue to feed their primary competition in tag and blog search.
Yeah right.
The layout changed a few more times, but by then Google made serious changes to their blogsearch and I believe, if my ramble recalls correctly a key member of Technorati jumped ship and headed to Google. Others simply abandoned ship or were forced to walk the plank. I think many of us smelled smoke, but no one spoke up before feeling the fire.
Of course there are plenty of anonymous posters ripping into Mr. Sifry during this challenging time. It’s unfortunate and I wish Dave the best and success in future endeavors. I also hope Technorati can once again find favor with the tech crowd and the blogging community.
