I mean at first they were in love with, Technorati, but then a light bulb obviously went off somewhere and now Technorati is less at least one engineer, Kevin Marks and recently without a CEO. Well if you’ve searched Google recently, no doubt whatever you searched for, a damn Wikipedia result is somewhere. More often than not, a Wikipedia page is in the top ten results.
What gives?
Wikipedia can be gamed just the same as Technorati and many times Wikipedia pages are in dispute or simply inaccurate. What is one to do? Expect adjustments from Google when Wikipedia Search comes to light. I’m thinking after a thorough sanitizing of Wikipedia pages and some tinkering, we’ll be spotting more results from Google Scholar, Google Book Search or some variant in our search results.
Meanwhile, before going public with something tangible, Wikipedia needs to do everything it can to create a functional, active user base from its’ visitors. Make themselves cool (yet serious), sticky and bookmark friendly. Because no doubt after officially entering into search and offering what is perceived as a viable product, the gloves will be off and Google will come out swinging like the 8-ton gorilla it is.
