Not backing down from the opportunity to capture market share as the two DVD formats battle for dominance, LG has officially unveiled the BH100 player. The world’s first player to be able to handle both Blu-ray and HD DVD formatted discs. The LG BH100 Super Multi Blue Player, cranks out full HD 1080p picture quality, has HDMI, optical and 5.1CH outs. But that’s not all.
As glorious as the new Super Multi Blue is, it can not play regular CD’s. Don’t fret though, your current collection of last generation DVD’s is safe, as the LG BH100 Super Multi Blue Player can play your old discs just fine. Other concerns include a lack of support for all HD DVD interative features, but Blu-ray Disc Association member LG would rather have something on the selves selling to both camps than waiting for a clear victor to be declared.
Provided that LG can work out a few of the kinks in future models they could have a runaway hit on their hands. If lucrative and other companies mimic LG and follow suit, there is not telling when the HD DVD / blu-ray deadlock will cease. The LG BH100 Super Multi Blue Player is expected to hit US shelves in the next few months (March) for a measly $1,199.
