Cingular Expecting a Name Change

Cingular Expecting a Name Change

Friday the FCC approved the mega-merger between communication companies BellSouth and ATT (formerly known as SBC). Immediately following the FCC approval ATT gave statement on how the merger will impact both companies. One major change which will surely get the attention of mobile users is the rebranding of Cingular.

While ATT Wireless would be the expected name, the final rebanded name has not been made public. In the meantime the fate of the Cingular Splash (Jack), is in the air. Hopefully ATT will create something dynamic and attractive for their mobile branding. The current Cingular branding strategy with handsets, like the SYNC and the BlackJack appear to be a hit for the company and to make such a change could be detrimental.

However if ATT rebrands Cingular with the announcement of a major mobile device, like say an iPod phone, a Palm or a Blackberry, it could be another shot in the arm.
