Nokia says it will pull itself from next years consumer electronics orgy held in Germany. CeBIT is by far Europe’s biggest and baddest tech fair, but Nokia always doing its best to stay one step ahead of the pack, will be pulling out. Other industry heavyweights snatched their names from the hat of listed attendees, including Philips and Canon. After breakout of the story Nokia issued a statement via spokeperson to make it clear that the company will make some appearances during their 2007 World Tour, most notably at 3GSM 2007. The decision to withdraw from CeBIT came after review of Nokia marketing activites. Known reasons behind the move include making a concerted effort on Nokia events such as Open Studio.
My perspective
While some may see this as arrogance on Nokia’s part, it looks to be a grand idea, considering the amount of coverage on the Open Studio was just as significant as any other event this year, except all of the coverage was focused on Nokia. Everyone was looking for insight and speculating as to what Nokia would bring to the table and apparently Nokia believes that model works best as opposed to direct competition with literally hundreds of other companies all releasing new products and information. This way Nokia controls the show and literally is the only act in town. Unless of course ther companies synchronize product releases and announcements at the same time, which I am almost certain they will.
