Motorola is really taking the business of standards-based communications platforms seriously and has moved forward by becoming a founding sponsor of the recently announced Communications Platforms Trade Association (CP-TA). Several telecommunication industry companies have joined in the launching of the CP-TA in hopes of creating a significant impact in the mobile industry in regards to reducing cost, reducing time-to-market and creating stable standards-based building blocks which can be used by multiple vendors.
This is exactly what was needed and I’m glad that there is going to be a group effort to bring standards to the mobile industry because without it, I could only see a split developing between Nokia and their idea of standards and Motorola. A governing body hopefully will be able to guide these two companies as well as others towards technologies and applications that will be of a benefit to all from research to ring tone.
