Sometime today, Disney is expected to announce plans on selling mobilephones to teens and the youth, in an effort to have parents harness more control over wireless youth among children.

Interestingly, the article Yahoo! is reporting from Reuters says subscriber growth is slowing in the US, but despite the fact Disney and brands such as ESPN plan to target spcific niches within the market.

Disney plans to start the service just before summer really gets going, in June. The thought process behind this is capturing the remaining 55 to 50 percent of the 13 year-old market which according to Jupiter Research analyst Julie Ask don’t have cellphones.

Disney hasn’t reveals prices as of yet, but says it will be competitive with other plans offered by carriers catering to families.

Now remember as BigBerries reported a while back, Disney buys Pixar, Pixar is Steve Jobs, which then following the daisy chain leads us to Apple.

I’ll leave the rest to your imagination, but you can practically guarantee when Apple makes its next move it’s going to be more than just a phone. It’s going to be an experience.

Personally I think Disney has the money but lacks the direction, there needs to be more than Disney is going to venture off into phones. The new honcho over there is making quite a few interesting moves, so we’ll see.
