Another company on the horizon to offer speech-recognizing services for mobile phones. A while back Bigberries reported regarding Promptu which will offer voice based search.
This time around Mobilemag picked up an article from Yahoo!, regarding Nuance Communications Inc., the company behind Dragon Naturally Speaking.
Nuance is said to be beta testing with about 10 carriers for speech recognizing services, much similar to Promptu, Nuance is offering a solution that is built around servers at a company facility instead of being limited to phone memory.
I think it’s great but with all the revenue coming in from text messaging, this may take a while before it’s adopted, at least adopted without fees.
Everytime I see these articles regarding voice recognizing technology I’m taken back to Wildfire. I’ll tell you this technology did everything for you, it was available for a limited time, in fact it may be available still exclusively.
Last I recall, which was several years ago, Microsoft somehow got involved with them, shortly thereafter, Wildfire stopped offering services.
Pretty much everything people are getting excited about now, Wildfire could do 10 years ago!
One thing I liked about it was the fact that Wildfire could detect if someone was lying about who they were when they called you, it was sweet.
Anybody out there who has information on Wildfire and what happened, send an email to news at BigBerries.com
