From Unstrung

Canadian based Research In Motion has announced its acquisition of Ascendent Systems, in an effort to strengthen its position in “push” services.
The move comes as RIM launches a new application that will allow Blackberry users the ability to connect through instant messaging systems in corporate environments.
Ascendent’s Voice Mobility Suite integrates with PBX and IP-PBX systems allowing users the ability to tranfser calls to any device.
It is suspected this move by RIM comes as a reaction to push email functions recently introduced by Microsoft.
Figures related to the deal were not disclosed and RIM has made no statement regarding implementation of Ascendent’s technology in it’s recent server software update.
